Melissa McCarthy: A Look at One of the Highest-Paid Actresses
In the annual highest-paid actresses list on Forbes, Melissa McCarthy is at number three with $23 million. Although she didn’t get the top honors, McCarthy’s achievements are particularly notable, as the top two slots belong to Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson—two names attached to two heavy-hitting film franchises (Hunger Games and Avengers).
Despite not being attached to some of the highest grossing film franchises on the market, McCarthy has soared. The comedian had her first huge breakout role four years ago on the 2011 film Bridesmaids, although she’d been acting long before—as fans of the television series Gilmore Girls can attest to. Since her beloved zany performance as Megan on Bridesmaids, the star hasn’t slowed. She has starred in multiple high-grossing films, the television series Mike and Molly, and she is about to become the proud owner of a fashion line set to hit stores in a week (September 1, 2015).
The line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7 is highly anticipated and may very well secure her spot in the top three for next year. It is expected to trump other celebrity-owned designs with its inclusive approach to fashion. The “all sizes line” will feature sizes 4 to 28 in dresses, denim, tops and other items. “People don’t stop at size 12,” McCarthy told More magazine. “It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs, hidden by the tire section.”
As if her anticipated achievements in fashion weren’t enough to secure her elite status, the star will be reuniting with Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig for what may be the beginning of her own blockbuster franchise if all goes well: the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. If the buzz is any indication of how the film will perform, we know who we’re gonna call next year for highest-paid actress—Melissa McCarthy.
