Elite Travel for Less: Private Jets for the Cost of a Plane Ticket
Have you ever shuffled onto a plane for a long flight and felt like the kid who didn’t get picked for the dodge ball game? As if long security checks and baggage lines weren’t enough, you have t0 walk by the roomy rows of fully reclining seats on your way to sardine-like chairs. “I’m going to splurge one day,” you tell yourself.
It’s true. Living the life elite is something many covet but few are able to experience. That’s slowly starting to change, thanks to a few clever travel startups.
Private jets are the ultimate in luxurious travel and elite living. They even make first class seats look less luxe. Of course, chartering a private jet can cost anywhere from $4,000 – $10,000 an hour—depending on the size of the jet and other factors. Enter companies like Surf Air, who are offering monthly memberships for unlimited flights on private jets.
Surf Air is expected to offer 90 daily connections, including coveted routes like Las Vegas and Los Angeles. A monthly membership starts at $1,750. While that is still a month’s rent for many of us, it’s for an entire month of private jet travel! Many one-time first class flights cost that much, and you still have to deal with the stresses and inconveniences of major airports.
How do they keep the prices that low? They’re simply renting individual seats, not the whole jet. With prices this fantastic, commercial airlines may miss out on some of their first class travelers. After all, if you were going to splurge, would you choose one flight or a month of unlimited domestic private travel? The latter sounds like a much cooler story to tell.
