Zayn Malik Leaves 1D: Can the Super Elite Be “Normal”?
Is Zayn Malik more famous now that he’s left One Direction? This week, the 22 year old announced that he is officially leaving the group. It comes after Malik took some time off from tour due to stress. Unsurprisingly, his departure has caused hysteria among tweens and teenagers all over the world. Girls are having crying fits on video, begging him to come back on social media.
In an official statement, Malik said: “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22 year old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”
If that is his true wish, it doesn’t appear likely like Malik will get to enjoy normalcy any time soon—if ever. Leaving The Life Elite is a difficult feat once you’ve become a top contributor. Within the first 48 hours of his announcement, One Direction streaming on services like Spotify shot up a staggering 769%. He is also trending non-stop.
Although social media trends tend to be fleeting, as is most viral news, the former 1D and XFactor member’s legacy remains. It is also estimated that his net worth is between $20 and $25 million. That’s more than most people make in their lifetimes.
Good luck finding your normal, Zayn.
